Essential information
Commonly known as caustic soda, caustic soda, or caustic soda, it is a highly corrosive strong alkali that is generally in the form of flakes or particles. It is easily soluble in water (releases heat when dissolved in water) and forms an alkaline solution. It also has deliquescence and can easily absorb water vapor and carbon dioxide from the air. NaOH is one of the essential chemicals in chemical laboratories and is also a common chemical product.
application area
Sodium hydroxide is mainly used in the production of papermaking, cellulose pulp, soap, synthetic detergents, synthetic fatty acids, and the refining of animal and vegetable oils. The textile printing and dyeing industry uses it as a cotton fabric desizing agent, refining agent, and silk finishing agent. The chemical industry is used to produce borax, sodium cyanide, formic acid, oxalic acid, phenol, etc. The petroleum industry is used to refine petroleum products and in drilling mud for oil fields. It is also used for surface treatment in the production of alumina, metallic zinc, and metallic copper, as well as in glass, enamel, leather, medicine, dyes, and pesticides. Food grade products are used in the food industry as acid neutralizers, peelers for citrus, peach, and other fruits, detergents for empty bottles, cans, and other containers, as well as decolorizers and deodorizers.
When sodium hydroxide is used as a basic reagent, it can be used as a neutralizing agent, a masking agent, a precipitant, a precipitation masking agent, an absorbent for small amounts of carbon dioxide and water, a color developing agent for the determination of ketosteroids by thin-layer analysis, etc. It is widely used in the manufacture of various sodium salts, soaps, pulp, finishing of cotton fabrics, silk, adhesive fibers, regeneration of rubber products, metal cleaning, electroplating, bleaching, etc.
Packaging, Storage, Transportation, and Safety
Solid sodium hydroxide is tightly sealed in 0.5mm thick steel drums, with a net weight not exceeding 100 kilograms per drum; Plastic bags or double-layer kraft paper bags with full or medium opening steel drums on the outside; Screw mouth glass bottles, iron cap pressed mouth glass bottles, plastic bottles, or ordinary wooden boxes outside metal drums (cans); Threaded mouth glass bottles, plastic bottles, or tin plated steel drums (cans) are filled with bottom plate grid boxes, fiberboard boxes, or plywood boxes; Tin plated steel drum (can), metal drum (can), plastic bottle or metal hose outer corrugated cardboard box. The packaging container should be complete, sealed, and have a clear "corrosive substance" label. During railway transportation, steel drum packaging can be transported by open top cars. When shipping, the packaging should be intact and the loading should be secure. During transportation, it is necessary to ensure that the container does not leak, collapse, fall, or be damaged, and is moisture-proof and rainproof. If corrosion, cracking, holes, or water leakage are found in the packaging container, the packaging should be replaced immediately or shipped for use as soon as possible. Damaged containers can be repaired by soldering. It is strictly prohibited to mix and transport with flammable or combustible materials, acids, edible chemicals, etc. Transport vehicles should be equipped with leak emergency response equipment during transportation. Do not store or mix with flammable materials and acids during transportation.
