Essential information
Produced by the combustion of phosphorus in oxygen, with the chemical formula P2O5. White amorphous powder or hexagonal crystal. Highly hygroscopic. Sublimation at 300 ℃. Not burning. Dissolving in water generates a large amount of heat and produces phosphoric acid, which reacts with ethanol similarly to water. The relative density is 2.30. Melting point 340 ℃. Acidic oxides are corrosive and should not be touched or consumed directly by hand, nor smelled directly.
Application area
Used as a desiccant for gases and liquids; Dehydrating agent for organic synthesis, anti-static agent for polyester resin, refining agent for drugs and sugars. It is the raw material for producing high-purity phosphoric acid, phosphate, phosphides, and phosphate esters. It can also be used for the production of pentoxide phosphorus sol and H-type aerosols. Used for manufacturing optical glass, UV transparent glass, heat-insulating glass, microcrystalline glass, and opaque glass to improve the dispersion coefficient and UV transmittance of the glass. Used as a desiccant, dehydrating agent, refining agent for sugar, and for the production of phosphoric acid, phosphorus compounds, and aerosols. It is also used as a doping source for semiconductor silicon, dehydrating desiccant, organic synthesis condensing agent, and surfactant. In junior high school chemistry, it is often used to test the mass fraction of oxygen in the air.

Health hazards: Poisoning symptoms are similar to yellow phosphorus. Acute poisoning: Oral ingestion: Within a few hours of the toxin entering, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur. Within a few days, jaundice and liver enlargement may occur, or acute liver necrosis may occur. In the most severe cases, within a few hours, the patient may transition from excitement to inhibition, become unconscious, experience circulatory failure, and ultimately die. Inhalation: Mild patients may experience headaches, dizziness, vomiting, and general weakness, while moderate patients may have more severe symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, fast pulse, and low blood pressure; Severe poisoning causes acute liver necrosis and coma. Chronic poisoning: Symptoms include respiratory irritation, gastritis, hepatitis, anemia, osteoporosis, and necrosis.
Emergency measures
Skin contact: Wipe off the poison with soft paper or cotton as soon as possible, then soak in 3% sodium bicarbonate solution. Then rinse thoroughly with water. Seek medical attention. Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes. For small amounts of skin contact, avoid spreading the substance over a larger area. Wipe off the solidified molten material on the skin under the guidance of a doctor. Pay attention to keeping the patient warm and quiet. Inhalation, ingestion, or skin contact with this substance can cause delayed reactions.
