Basic information
Potassium permanganate (Potassium permanganate) is a strong oxidant, black purple, slender prismatic crystals or particles, with blue metallic luster, odorless, and some organic matter or easy oxide contact, prone to explosion, soluble in water, lye, slightly soluble in methanol, acetone, sulfuric acid, molecular formula KMnO4, molecular weight of 158.034. Melting point is 240°C, but contact with flammable materials may cause fire. In the production of chemicals, it is widely used as an oxidant.
Application areas
In the production of chemicals, it is widely used as an oxidant, such as sugar concentrate, vitamin C, isoniazid and benzoic acid oxidant; used as a preservative, disinfectant, deodorant and antidote in medicine; In water purification and wastewater treatment, it is used as a water treatment agent to oxidize hydrogen sulfide, phenol, iron, manganese and organic, inorganic and other pollutants to control odor and decolorization. Also used as bleach, adsorbent, colorant and disinfectant.

First aid measures
Skin contact: immediately remove contaminated clothing and rinse with plenty of flowing water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention. (If it is not serious, it can be cleaned with gasoline)
Eye contact: immediately lift the eyelid and rinse thoroughly with plenty of flowing water or normal saline for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: quickly leave the scene to fresh air. Keep the respiratory tract unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, give artificial respiration immediately. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Gargle with water and drink milk or egg white. Seek medical attention.
Hazardous characteristics
Strong oxidant. In case of concentrated sulfuric acid and ammonium salt, explosion can occur. Glycerin can cause spontaneous combustion. With organic matter, reducing agent, flammable materials such as sulfur, phosphorus and other contact or mixing, there is a danger of combustion explosion.
Fire extinguishing method: use water and mist water to extinguish the fire.
Emergency treatment
Isolate the leak contaminated area and restrict access. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear dust mask (full face mask) and protective clothing. Do not touch the leak directly. Small amount of leakage: mixed with sand, dry lime or soda ash. Collect with a clean shovel in a dry, clean, covered container. Large leakage: collection and recycling or transportation to waste disposal site.
