Basic information
NaOH is one of the essential chemicals in chemical laboratories and is also one of the common chemicals. Pure product is colorless transparent crystal. Density 2.130g/cm³. Melting point 318.4 ℃. Boiling point 1390 ℃. Industrial products contain a small amount of sodium chloride and sodium carbonate, which are white opaque crystals. There are massive, flake, granular and rod-like. The amount of 40.01 sodium hydroxide in water treatment can be used as alkaline cleaning agent, soluble in ethanol and glycerol; insoluble in propanol, ether. It also has a corrosive effect on sodium carbon at high temperatures. With chlorine, bromine, iodine and other halogen disproportionation reaction. It neutralizes with acids to form salts and water.
Application areas
Sodium hydroxide is mainly used in papermaking, cellulose pulp production and soap, synthetic detergent, synthetic fatty acid production and animal and vegetable oil refining. The textile printing and dyeing industry is used as a cotton desiping agent, a scouring agent and a merizing agent. Chemical industry for the production of borax, sodium cyanide, formic acid, oxalic acid, phenol and so on. The petroleum industry is used to refine petroleum products and in oil field drilling muds. Also used in the production of aluminum oxide, metal zinc and metal copper surface treatment and glass, enamel, leather, medicine, dyes and pesticides. Food grade products are used as acid neutralizers in the food industry, as peeling agents for citrus, peaches, etc., as detergents for empty bottles, empty cans and other containers, as well as decolorizing agents and deodorizers.
When sodium hydroxide is used as a basic reagent, it can be used as a neutralizing agent, a masking agent, a precipitation agent, a small amount of carbon dioxide and a water absorbent, and a developer for the determination of ketosterols by thin-layer analysis. It is widely used in the manufacture of various sodium salts, soap, pulp, finishing cotton fabrics, silk, viscose fibers, regeneration of rubber products, metal cleaning, electroplating, bleaching, etc.
In cosmetic creams, saponification of sodium hydroxide and stearic acid acts as an emulsifier to make vanishings, shampoos, etc.
Packaging, transportation and safety
Storage Method:
Sodium hydroxide should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat source. The temperature of the reservoir shall not exceed 35 ℃ and the relative humidity shall not exceed 80%. The package must be sealed to avoid moisture. It should be stored separately from easily (combustible) materials and acids, and mixed storage is not allowed. The storage area shall be provided with suitable materials to contain spills.
First aid measures
Eye contact: immediately lift the eyelid, rinse with flowing water or normal saline for at least 15 minutes, or rinse with 3% boric acid solution, and seek medical attention quickly.
Inhalation: quickly get out of the fresh air of the field value. If necessary, perform artificial respiration and seek medical attention quickly.
Ingestion: Gargle immediately when the patient is awake, take diluted vinegar or lemon juice orally, and seek medical attention quickly.
Emergency treatment of leakage
Isolate the leakage pollution area, and set warning signs around it. It is recommended that emergency personnel wear gas masks and chemical protective clothing. Do not directly touch the leakage. Flush with plenty of water. Put the diluted wash water into the waste system. Such as a large number of leakage, collection recycling or harmless disposal after disposal.
Fire protection measures
Fire extinguishing method: firefighters must wear work clothes (anti-corrosion materials).
Extinguishing agent: misty water and sandy soil.
