Basic information

Easily soluble in water, aluminum sulfate in pure sulfuric acid can not be dissolved (just coexistence), in sulfuric acid solution with sulfuric acid dissolved in water, so the solubility of aluminum sulfate in sulfuric acid is the solubility of aluminum sulfate in water.

The precipitation at room temperature contains 18 molecules of crystal water, which is 18 water aluminum sulfate, and the industrial production is mostly 18 water aluminum sulfate. Containing anhydrous aluminum sulfate 51.3%, even at 100 ℃ will not be autolytic (soluble in its own crystal water).

Not easy to weather and lose crystal water, relatively stable, heating will lose water, high temperature will be decomposed into alumina and sulfur oxides. Heating to 770°C begins to decompose into alumina, sulfur trioxide, sulfur dioxide and water vapor. Soluble in water, acid and alkali, insoluble in ethanol. The aqueous solution is acidic. After hydrolysis, aluminum hydroxide is produced. Aqueous solution boiling for a long time can produce basic aluminum sulfate. Industrial products are off-white flake, granular or block, with light green due to low iron salt, and yellow surface due to oxidation of low iron salt. The crude product is a gray-white fine crystal structure porous. Non-toxic, dust can stimulate the eyes.

Application areas

1. Used as a paper sizing agent in the paper industry to enhance the water resistance and impermeability of the paper;

2. After being dissolved in water, the fine particles and natural colloidal particles in the water can be condensed into large flocs, which can be removed from the water, so it is used as a coagulant for water supply and wastewater;

3. Used as turbidity water purification agent, also used as precipitant, fixing agent, filler, etc. used in cosmetics as antiperspirant cosmetic raw material (astringent);

4. In the fire industry, foam extinguishing agent is composed of baking soda and foaming agent;

5. Analytical reagent, mordant, tanning agent, grease decolorizing agent, wood preservative;

6. Stabilizer for albumin pasteurization (including liquid or frozen whole egg, egg white or egg yolk)

7. Can be used as raw materials for the manufacture of artificial gemstones and advanced ammonium alum, other aluminates;

8. In the fuel industry, it is used as a precipitant in the production of chrome yellow and lake dyes, while at the same time acting as a solid color and filler.

Packaging, transportation and safety

Operation precautions: closed operation, local exhaust. Operators must be specially trained and strictly abide by the operating procedures. Operators are advised to wear self-priming filter dust masks, chemical safety goggles, anti-poison penetration overalls and rubber gloves. Avoid creating dust. Avoid contact with oxidizing agents. Lightly loaded and unloaded during handling to prevent packaging damage. Equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may leave harmful substances.

Precautions for storage: Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat source. Should be stored separately from the oxidant, do not mix storage. The storage area shall be provided with suitable materials to contain spills.
