essential information
Colorless liquid. There is a strong pungent odor. Density 0.83. Refractive index 1.430. Melting point -16 ℃. Boiling point 196 ℃. Not miscible with water, but miscible with ethanol, ether, and chloroform. It is used for making essence and cosmetics, as well as solvent, antifoam agent, plasticizer, antifreeze, lubricant additive, etc. It is a byproduct of producing lauric acid from coconut oil. It can also be obtained by catalytic controlled polymerization of ethylene, followed by hydrolysis and separation.
application area
Mainly used in the production of plasticizers, extractants, stabilizers, as intermediates for solvents and fragrances. In the field of plasticizers, octanol generally refers to 2-ethylhexanol, which is a million ton bulk raw material and is much more valuable in industry than n-octanol. Octanol itself is also used as a spice to blend rose, lily and other floral essence, and as a soap spice. This product is a permitted edible spice according to Chinese GB2760-86 regulations. It is mainly used to prepare coconut, pineapple, peach, chocolate and citrus essence.
Packaging, Storage, Transportation, and Safety
Precautions for operation:
Sealed operation with comprehensive ventilation. Operators must undergo specialized training and strictly adhere to operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear self-priming filter type gas masks (half face masks), chemical safety goggles, work clothes that prevent toxic substances from penetrating, and rubber gloves. Keep away from sources of fire and heat, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Prevent steam leakage into the workplace air. Avoid contact with oxidants and acids. Handle with care during transportation to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equip with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and emergency response equipment for leaks. Empty containers may contain residual harmful substances.
Storage precautions:
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. It should be stored separately from oxidants, acids, and edible chemicals, and avoid mixing storage. Equip with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. The storage area should be equipped with emergency response equipment for leaks and suitable containment materials.
