vitamin C

Vitamin C, also known as vitamin C, is a polyhydroxy compound with the chemical formula C6H8O6. The structure is similar to glucose, and the two adjacent enol hydroxyl groups at the second and third positions in its molecule are easily dissociated to release H+, thus possessing acidic properties, also known as L-ascorbic acid. Vitamin C has strong reducibility and is easily oxidized to dehydrovitamin C, but its reaction is reversible, and ascorbic acid and dehydroascorbic acid have the same physiological function. However, if dehydroascorbic acid is further hydrolyzed to produce diketone gluconic acid, the reaction is irreversible and completely loses its physiological efficacy.

application area
一、 Drug action

1. Promote antibody formation. High concentrations of vitamin C help reduce cysteine in food proteins to cysteine, which in turn synthesizes antibodies.
2. Promote the absorption of iron. Vitamin C can reduce difficult to absorb trivalent iron to easily absorbed divalent iron, thereby promoting iron absorption. In addition, vitamin C can activate the thiol groups of iron chelating enzymes and other enzymes to effectively exert its effects, making it an important adjuvant drug for treating anemia.
3. Promote the formation of tetrahydrofolate. Vitamin C can promote the reduction of folate to tetrahydrofolate, and therefore has a certain therapeutic effect on megaloblastic anemia.
4. Detoxification. After supplementing a large amount of vitamin C in the body, it can alleviate the toxic effects of heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic on the body.
5. Preventing cancer. Many studies have shown that vitamin C can block the synthesis of carcinogenic N-nitroso compounds and prevent cancer.

二、Physiological function

1. Promote the biosynthesis of collagen, which is beneficial for faster healing of tissue wounds.
2. Promote the metabolism of tyrosine and tryptophan in amino acids, and prolong the lifespan of the body.
3. Improve the utilization of iron, calcium, and folate; Improve the metabolism of fats and lipids, especially cholesterol, and prevent cardiovascular disease.
4. Promote the growth of teeth and bones, prevent bleeding from the gums, and prevent joint pain and lower back pain.
5. Enhance the body's ability to resist stress and immunity to the external environment.
6. A highly water-soluble antioxidant that mainly acts in aqueous solutions within the body.
7. Strong connective tissue; Promote the synthesis of collagen and prevent gum bleeding.
