Formic acid (chemical formula HCOOH, molecular formula CH2O2, molecular weight 46.03), commonly known as formic acid, is a relatively simple carboxylic acid. A colorless liquid with a pungent odor. Weak electrolyte, melting point 8.6 ℃, boiling point 100.8 ℃. It has strong acidity, corrosiveness, and can stimulate skin foaming. Exists in the secretions of bees, certain ants, and caterpillars. It is an organic chemical raw material and also used as a disinfectant and preservative.
application area
1. Pharmaceutical industry: can be used for the processing of caffeine, metamaterial, aminophylline, theobromine, vitamin B1, metronidazole, and metronidazole.
2. Pesticide industry: It can be used for the processing of fenugreek, triazolone, tricyclic azole, triazole, triazophos, paclobutrazol, uniconazole, insecticide ether, and trichlorfon.
3. Chemical industry: raw materials for manufacturing various formates, formamides, pentaerythritol, neopentyl glycol, epoxidized soybean oil, epoxidized soybean oleate octyl ester, terephthaloyl chloride, paint removers, and phenolic resins.
4. Leather industry: used as a tanning agent, ash remover, and neutralizer for leather.
5. Rubber industry: used for processing natural rubber coagulants and manufacturing rubber anti-aging agents.
6. Formic acid and its aqueous solutions can dissolve many metals, metal oxides, hydroxides, and salts, and the resulting formate salts can dissolve in water, making them suitable as chemical cleaning agents. Formic acid does not contain chloride ions and can be used for cleaning equipment containing stainless steel materials.
7. Other: It can also manufacture dyeing and printing mordants, dyeing agents, processing agents, plasticizers, food preservatives, animal feed additives, and reducing agents for fibers and paper.
Packaging, Storage, Transportation, and Safety
Store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Stay away from sources of fire and heat. The storage temperature shall not exceed 30 ℃, and the relative humidity shall not exceed 85%. Keep the container sealed. It should be stored separately from oxidants, alkalis, and active metal powders, and avoid mixing storage. Equip with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment. The storage area should be equipped with emergency response equipment for leaks and suitable containment materials.
